About the role

We’re looking for a creative, community-minded volunteer to manage and grow our social media presence. As Social Media Manager, you’ll help amplify the voices of local people, share the impact of our work, and promote inclusive events, services, and opportunities across Redbridge, Newham, and Waltham Forest.

You’ll be the storyteller and connector behind our platforms — helping us reach more people, strengthen community ties, and celebrate what togetherness really looks like.

Location: Remote or hybrid (with occasional in-person meetings in Redbridge, Newham, or Waltham Forest)

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule regular content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn etc.)
  • Create engaging posts using stories, photos, graphics and videos
  • Promote events, volunteer opportunities, and community services
  • Respond to comments and messages in a friendly, timely manner
  • Track engagement and recommend ways to grow reach
  • Work with staff and volunteers to gather stories and updates
  • Ensure all content aligns with our mission, tone and values

Benefits to volunteer

  • Grow your portfolio with real-world, community-led content
  • Develop marketing and digital skills in a flexible role
  • Gain valuable experience for careers in comms, non-profits or media
  • Be creative with purpose – your content will directly impact lives
  • Build connections with a passionate, diverse team
  • Make a real difference by helping underrepresented voices be seen and heard

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Confident using at least one major social platform (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Creative eye for visual storytelling
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Reliable, organised, and self-motivated
  • Passionate about inclusion, community, and positive social change
  • No formal qualifications required
  • Experience in content creation, social media, digital marketing, or community engagement is welcome but not essential
  • Own computer/laptop – essential for managing content
  • Internet access – for remote work and communications
  • Smartphone – helpful for quick content creation or updates
  • Basic design or editing tools – Canva, CapCut, etc. (we can provide support if needed)

Location

This opportunity can be carried out whilst working from home.
