  1. To engage members of the public in conversation, to provide peer support to help people get the best out of their local health and care services and signpost to information, groups and services.   
  2. To report back on any issues especially health and social care, that would impact on the lives of Disabled People raised by the people you talk to. 
  3. To distribute information leaflets/flyers about DPV and the training we offer.
  4. To promote our events and projects.  
  5. To increase sign-up for the DPV newsletters and social media channels
  6. To increase Disabled People’s involvement and participation in volunteering.
  7. To observe our Volunteers’ Code of Conduct.

What skills do I need?

Qualities:

  • Understand and adhere to the social model of disability, have an awareness of health and care.
  • Passionate about supporting others and ability to share your own experiences.
  • Have the ability to develop good rapport with people.
  • Be able to communicate with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to empathise and understand.
  • Have a non-judgement approach.
  • Be able to work with a team.

Skills:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Have a good understanding of confidentiality.  

Other requirements:

  • Reliability
  • Lived experience of a disability
