As a Volunteer Leader for the Memories Choir, you will help create a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment where people living with dementia, memory loss, and their families can enjoy the benefits of singing together. You will provide encouragement, build confidence among participants, and help ensure that every choir session is welcoming, engaging, and accessible to all attendees.

The Volunteer Leader will assist in planning and delivering choir sessions alongside the choir facilitator or music lead. Responsibilities include welcoming members, supporting participation during rehearsals, coordinating volunteers, helping with session setup and refreshments, promoting the choir within the community, and ensuring the wellbeing and comfort of attendees throughout each session. The role may also involve helping to organise performances, special events, and community engagement activities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and compassionate individual with good communication and organisational skills. Previous musical experience is helpful but not essential; the most important qualities are patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting people affected by dementia. Training, guidance, and ongoing support will be provided, making this a rewarding opportunity to lead a team of volunteers while helping people create meaningful connections and lasting memories through music.

What skills do I need?

  • Understanding of Music as a Therapy
  • Can commit to attending the sessions
  • Happy to work with the group on music choice
  • Doesn't need to read music
  • Enjoys singing
