We are looking for volunteers to take part with our activities with our elderly on daily basis. These activities involve chair exercises, board games, bingo, cards. dominos etc. We are looking for people that care! it's actually that simple. Someone that can spare few hours to spend with our residents, talking, having a up of tea, showing interest and companionship. New faces bring new lease of life and excitement. Its a homely environment, we are looking for someone who will just fit in, show interest and take part. 

What skills do I need?

1. Empathy and Compassion

The ability to understand and relate to the feelings of elderly residents.

Showing kindness, patience, and sensitivity to residents' needs.

2. Communication Skills

Being able to communicate clearly and effectively with both residents and staff.

Listening actively to residents and responding with warmth and respect.

Understanding non-verbal cues, especially with residents who may have difficulty speaking.

3. Patience

Many residents may have physical or cognitive challenges, so patience is critical in assisting with tasks and activities.

Willingness to spend time with residents without rushing them.

4. Reliability and Commitment

Consistency in attendance and following through on commitments is important to provide stable support for residents.

A reliable volunteer builds trust with both residents and staff.

5. Adaptability

Being able to handle changing situations or unexpected challenges.

Flexibility to assist with a variety of tasks, from helping with activities to providing companionship.

6. Teamwork

Working cooperatively with care staff, other volunteers, and family members.

Helping maintain a positive and supportive environment in the care home.

7. Basic First Aid and Health Awareness

While formal medical skills are not typically required, basic awareness of first aid and health practices can be beneficial.

Understanding hygiene and safety standards within the care home environment.

8. Respect for Confidentiality

Volunteers must respect residents' privacy and confidentiality, especially regarding personal and medical information.

9. Organizational Skills

Volunteers may be involved in organizing activities, outings, or assisting with scheduling.

Ability to manage time and tasks efficiently.

10. Emotional Resilience

Working in a care home can be emotionally challenging, so being able to handle difficult situations and provide emotional support is important.

11. Understanding of Dementia and Elderly Needs (Optional)

A basic understanding of dementia or elderly care can be beneficial in improving interactions and meeting the specific needs of some residents.

12. Positive Attitude and Enthusiasm

Bringing a positive, enthusiastic attitude to the care home to lift the spirits of residents and staff.
