Share your love of the Ouseburn area by leading visitors on our 90-minute Ouseburn Heritage guided walk, incorporating fascinating stories based on the Valley’s rich heritage and regeneration initiatives

As a walking guide, you will welcome groups of visitors to Ouseburn and deliver information about the area’s heritage, modern regeneration and future plans. You’ll have a script to work from but there will be plenty of opportunities to add your own twist.

You’ll often work in pairs to lead a tour following a set route. Tour guides monitor and observe the health and safety requirements of the tour, particularly in areas with busy traffic.

Volunteers will undergo a training programme and be given full support by the existing Volunteer Guides and Ouseburn Trust staff.

Guides will be required to volunteer for two and a half hours at a time, although tours will generally last 90 minutes.

Tours run every Saturday morning throughout the year starting at 10.30 and at other times for privately booked groups.

What skills do I need?

  • As a tour guide, we don’t expect you to know everything about Ouseburn. However, you need to have a passion for heritage and history of the North East, and a keen interest in Ouseburn Valley.
  • You must be an excellent communicator. You’ll be working with groups of up to 15 people, so experience of presenting is helpful but not essential
  • Once trained the preference would be for Guides to lead tours regularly, preferably once every three to four weeks. A willingness to step in at short notice is very much appreciated.
