A Conservation Volunteer supports practical environmental work that protects and enhances natural habitats, working across sites such as nature reserves, Denes, woodlands, and riversides.

Typical activities include- habitat management tasks like coppicing, scrub clearance, hedge laying, footpath maintenance, invasive species removal, and site clean‑ups, as well as tree and wildflower planting and the creation of wildlife habitats such as ponds, meadows, and nest boxes.

The role involves working as part of a team under the guidance of a ranger, following health and safety instructions, and using tools appropriately.

What skills do I need?

No prior experience is required; volunteers simply need to enjoy outdoor activities, be willing to learn, follow guidance, and work collaboratively, with tasks adapted to different abilities where needed. This opportunity can also be made available for groups who wish to volunteer together.

As with all our roles, we ask you to complete a short application form so we can set you up on our volunteer system. You’ll then be invited to book a brief introduction call with our Volunteer and Community Engagement Specialist. This friendly, informal 15‑minute chat is an opportunity to talk about what you’re looking for, explore which roles might suit you best, and learn more about how to get involved.
