Who Are We?
1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability. Our vision is for the UK to be the best place in the world for people with a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives. There is still so much to do so that people with a learning disability have the same rights as everyone else and are treated equally in society.
Everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers. Mencap works with people with a learning disability to change laws, challenge prejudice and support them to live their lives as they choose.
The Role
We are looking for a volunteer who is confident in driving and wants to support some of the people we support to increase their access to their local area.
As a volunteer driver, you would need to be over 21 and have a full driving licence. By volunteering with us you will be helping local people with a learning disability access their community, so you will be making a huge difference!
About the people you will driving:
The role would involve driving a person/some of the people we support a short journey from their home to nearby locations and back. The people who live in one of our homes in Haywards Heath love to go out to take part in activities. The drives would normally be under an hour. We also have one resident who likes to visit her mum in Havant once a fortnight, so support to drive her so she can see her family would be much appreciated! The trip to Havant could always be shared with one of our members of staff - we will always be as flexible as possible around your availability.
When do I need to be available?
The days and times required for the role is flexible depending on both your availability and the needs of the people you will be driving. If you can only give us a few hours a week on certain days, please do get in touch as all help is beneficial.
This opportunity is available Countywide.
