Who Are We?

At Turning Tides, we know that homelessness has so many possible root causes – domestic violence, debt, addiction, grief or mental health challenges, to name a few.

We believe that real change comes from more than a roof over someone’s head. With kindness and experience, our team of staff and volunteers help people tackle the issues behind their homelessness. Homelessness must never be normalised; we stand for a world where every person has a place to call home.

Volunteers are the backbone of Turning Tides. By contributing your time and expertise, you help people affected by homelessness to rebuild their lives and look to the future with optimism.

The Role

The Community Wellbeing & Support Volunteer supports residents both one-to-one and in group settings. The role combines individual support all delivered through a co-produced approach while building clients confidence, independence and community connection.

  • Accompanying residents to appointments (such as GP or hospital)
  • Co-facilitate Meet & Eat sessions where both you and residents plan, share recipes and prepare meals.
  • Lead or support wellbeing sessions such as mindfulness, arts and crafts,
  • Help maintaining a tidy living space.
  • Plant & Garden maintenance Volunteers will be matched to activities that suit the location, project focus, and their interests, ensuring a positive and manageable experience for everyone

What skills do I need?

Who would suit this role?

  • This role suits volunteers who are empathetic, inclusive and reliable.
  • An interest in wellbeing, community support or group activities is helpful but not essential.
  • No formal qualifications are required but an understanding of our clients group would be beneficial
