Volunteers are vital to the continued running of Diving Museum. The Learning Activities Volunteer will support the museum team to deliver a range of learning activities offered to visitors of all ages. The volunteer will create an excellent visitor experience by interacting with family visitors and engaging children and families in informal workshops and sessions. 

Volunteer tasks 

  • Support the delivery of learning activities listed in the Activity Plan. 
  • Work closely with the Community Engagement Officer and freelance facilitators to develop content and resources as required, help set up activities, meet and greet school groups on arrival. 
  • Support family groups, children and young people, including those on school visits, with STEM activities exploring themes of the Diving Museum’s exhibitions. 
  • Understand and share stories of diving and the military history of the building.
  • Be aware of and follow the museum’s Safeguarding and Health & Safety policies at all times. 
  • Ensure emergency evacuation procedures are followed correctly. 
  • Report any incidents or hazards to the on-site staff as soon as possible.

What skills do I need?

Volunteers from all backgrounds and experience are welcome, especially those who have an interest in working in the museums and heritage sector. You will need good communication and interpersonal skills, especially in working with children of all ages. Punctuality, reliability are also important, as is a willingness to take responsibility for areas such as health and safety. The role is suited to anyone who enjoys meeting people and who likes working as part of a team. You will be volunteering under the guidance of the Museum Manager, but much of the time you may be working unsupervised.
