Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome (SMGWA) is the most complete First World War Aerodrome in Europe. It is a unique heritage site open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and runs a schedule of varied events. It has 22 original buildings, is an accredited museum, a live airfield, a cafe and small shop and is a wildlife conservation zone. SMGWA hosts a small number of full and part-time paid roles, but is largely operated by volunteers who engage in a wide range of activities, reflecting the varied nature of this fascinating site. Safety and wellbeing of staff, volunteers and visitors is vital and is very high on our list of priorities. The opportunity has arisen for someone to take over as our lead volunteer on aspects of Health and Safety, supporting and working alongside the paid staff, CEO and the Board of Trustees, who have overall responsibility. If this volunteer role is of interest to you please contact [email protected] in the first instance, including a CV.

What skills do I need?

SMGWA is looking for an individual who has experience in organisational Health, Safety, Security and Welfare, with the necessary skills to support SMGWA as a volunteer in achieving and maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and to assist in maintaining a culture of safeworking. The Charity is looking for a good communicator with a commitment to professional working and can give up to 15 hours of their time each week.
