Do you have the time and skills that could be put to good use in improving outcomes for children in the area?

We support schools across Hounslow to find volunteers with various skills and experience such as data analytics, marketing, social branding, wellbeing, creative arts, vocational pathways, career planning and community integration.

Every governing board needs a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience. You don’t need to be a parent or have a background in education and we provide an induction and ongoing training across the academic year.

As a Governor you’d be involved in

– Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

– Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and

– Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

You need to be aged 18 or over, available to attend two to three meetings per term with some background reading, visit the school occasionally, and not disqualified under the relevant rules and procedures.

What skills do I need?

Skills for governance include strategic planning, financial oversight, and legal compliance, alongside collaborative abilities like stakeholder engagement and building positive relationships. The National Governance Association (NGA) identifies key skills through tools like its skills audit, which helps boards assess their collective knowledge and identify gaps for recruitment and development.
