We support schools across Hounslow to find volunteers with various skills and experience such as data analytics, marketing, social branding, wellbeing, creative arts, vocational pathways, career planning and community integration.

Every governing board needs a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience. You don’t need to be a parent or have a background in education and we provide an induction and ongoing training across the academic year.

As a Governor you’d be involved in

– Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

– Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and

– Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

You need to be aged 18 or over, available to attend two to three meetings per term with some background reading, visit the school occasionally, and not disqualified under the relevant rules and procedures.

What skills do I need?

Governance skills include a mix of strategic, leadership, communication, and technical abilities, such as strategic planning, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and strong financial or legal knowledge. Developing skills in areas like accountability, compliance, and data security is also crucial for effective governance.

Legal and compliance: Knowledge of legal requirements and ensuring adherence to them.

Industry knowledge: Understanding the specific sector and the broader environment the organization operates within.

Professional and ethical conduct

Integrity and ethics: Acting professionally, maintaining confidentiality, and demonstrating sound ethics.
