Working within your area of Burnley/ Pendle/ Rossendale, you will engage within communities you volunteer or work in to provide awareness around cancer prevention and sign posting

Your role is not to diagnose. You will be given full training in your induction and have access to physical information packs as well as online resources you can use with people in your community

Many people do this role within their day-to-day work role. We do ask you talk to your employer before signing up. You decide how much time you put into the role, it can be as little as a few conversations a week. Being a cancer awareness champion also means people can come to yourself for signposting.

We ask for you to commit to fill out feedback for us each week which takes approximately 3 minutes and is via an email form. It lets us know about the types of engagement you have had each week and how many hours you have put in. This information goes back to our funders so we can show where there is a demand.

We do not ask for a DBS for this role.

You will be asked to complete safeguarding adults and information governance training, if this is something you do not do through your employment/ other volunteer roles, we will be able to provide the training modules for you to complete.

Extra information:

  • Commit to 30-minute sign up and understanding of the role

  • Commit to 2 hours in person training module on the role of the champion

  • Access to our portal where all your supporting documents can be found

  • Potential to attend other training around cancer prevention and support (non-mandatory)

  • Commit to the weekly feedback form completed and returned

  • Commit to completing information governance and safeguarding adult training (if not already completed as part of current volunteering or employment)

  • Regular emails with relevant information around what’s happening in your local area.

  • Support from our volunteer hub Monday – Friday 9-3pm
