Reception volunteers provide a friendly and accessible first point of contact for everyone who visits or contacts Possability People. You will help create a welcoming environment for disabled people, their families, carers, volunteers, staff, partners and members of the public.

The role involves welcoming visitors, answering telephone calls, responding to general enquiries and helping people access the right information or support. You may support appointments, take messages, signpost enquiries to the appropriate team and ensure information is shared accurately.

You will also help the office run smoothly by supporting general administrative tasks such as handling post, scanning documents, updating records and preparing information.

As a Reception Volunteer, you will play an important role in making sure people feel comfortable, included and valued from their first interaction with Possability People.

Benefits

Develop valuable skills and experience – Build confidence in communication, customer service, administration and working in a professional environment. Make a difference to people’s experience – Help create a welcoming, accessible first point of contact for disabled people, families, carers, volunteers and visitors.

Be part of a supportive team – Meet new people, gain volunteering experience and contribute to the work of a local disability charity.

Practical Considerations

This role is based at our Head Office in Kemp Town, Brighton.

We ask for a regular commitment, with volunteer sessions agreed in advance with the team. The exact days and times can be discussed to find a suitable arrangement.

Travel expenses can be reimbursed in line with our volunteer expenses policy.

We are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments with you, including changes to activities, timings, equipment or any additional support needs.

Support Disabled

As a disability charity, we are committed to making volunteering accessible and welcoming for everyone. We recognise that people may need different types of support to take part, and we are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments before and during your volunteering. Support may include adapting tasks or timings, providing equipment or additional guidance, making changes to communication methods, or considering any access needs. We work with volunteers to understand what will help them feel confident and included in their role. Reception volunteers receive an induction, ongoing support from their volunteer lead and guidance from the wider team. We will support you to learn our systems, understand our services and build confidence in welcoming visitors, responding to enquiries and supporting the smooth running of our reception area. We value the skills, experience and lived experience that disabled volunteers bring, while welcoming anyone who shares our values and wants to contribute.
