You will support clients—mostly at our St Clare’s IT drop-in group session, but sometimes one-to-one —to develop essential digital skills and confidence. This may include helping with:

  •  Basic navigation and using their own device
  •  Setting up devices to suit individual needs
  •  Creating and using email accounts
  •  Using apps and online storage (Google, Apple, Microsoft)
  •  Writing emails and using simple office tools
  •  Accessing online banking and benefits
  •  Understanding online safety, including phishing and fake websites
  •  Completing web searches, forms, and setting up online accounts
  •  Working towards the Essential Digital Skills Framework
  •  Supporting and encouraging independent learning.

Benefits

Before you start your volunteering, you will be invited to an induction.  During this induction we will share with you our Volunteering Handbook.

The induction will cover Professional Boundaries, Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity and be a chance for you to find out more about Turning Tides and ask any questions.

This role requires training, and we ask that you can commit to this. (The training is in a variety of formats depending on the subject – a video to watch, a document to read or an online course). You will be sent a link to MeLearning after your induction with the relevant courses to your role

Practical Considerations

Times & Commitment:

2 hours minimum per week on Thursdays from 1-3pm, additional times and extra hours can be flexible to suit the need of digital support from different services.

Support Disabled

What skills do I need?

Our aim is to improve digital access and inclusion by offering devices and a supportive, friendly learning environment that also encourages social and community connection.

As part of the team, your ideas, knowledge, and insights are always welcome. We’re looking for someone with a patient, flexible approach, who enjoys supporting others to learn at their own pace and is comfortable using everyday technology. You do not need to be an IT expert for this role.
