Breastfeeding can be a very challenging time for many new parents. Supporting face to face in community settings, you can make a real difference, by signposting and offering support. If you have experience of breastfeeding or expressing and want to help others, we would love to hear from you.

What you will be doing:

  • The trained Breastfeeding Peer Support Volunteers will promote breastfeeding and support individuals in their own infant feeding journey
  • Offer to support, encourage and provide information to breastfeeding
  • women and their families via one-one contacts or in community groups
  • Support establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding
  • Help to overcome common challenges around breastfeeding to support with achieving personal infant feeding goals.

What skills do I need?

  • Self-motivated; with an ability to think on your feet and work independently
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Professional and friendly demeanour
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Able to demonstrate empathy and compassion
  • Ability to empower and enable others
  • Personal experience of breastfeeding or expressing.
