About

Frimley Park Hospital was built in 1974 to provide a full range of district general hospital services for the population of north east Hampshire and west Surrey replacing a number of cottage hospitals. The catchment population at that time was around 170,000 but constant development in the surrounding area has seen this figure rise steadily to about 400,000 today. The trust is the biggest employer in Surrey Heath and has an annual turnover ??190million. Since 1996 it has incorporated a Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit, with fully integrated military medics contributing to the success of its patient services. Due to a consistently strong performance over several years, Frimley Park Hospital became a foundation trust on 1 April 2005. Since then the trust has been able to invest in further patient services such as a modern eye unit, a new ??2m cardiac centre, expanded critical care facilities and extended consultant cover in front-line services. The hospital has strong links with the local community through its foundation trust membership of 10,000 patients, potential patients, stakeholders and staff. The trust is developing ways of involving members more and more in its future. The main centres of population served by Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are: Aldershot, Ash, Ash Vale, Bagshot, Blackwater Camberley, Crowthorne, Eversley, Farnborough, Farnham, Fleet, Frimley, Sandhurst, Yateley and surrounding communities. The Ministry of Defence has played a critical part in absorbing the extra workload following the closure of the Cambridge Military Hospital. MDHU staff have been successfully integrated into Frimley's clinical structure, treating both MoD and civilian patients. The hospital has provided a sound training base for post-graduate doctors and nurses, and MDHU staff have brought additional skills and expertise for the benefit of the local community.
