Providing 1:1 support for 16 years to 70 plus with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. A mentor will establish a positive, trusting mentoring relationship. Help in building up the mentees self-esteem and confidence. Provide support, motivation and encouragement to enable the mentee to achieve their potential. Mentors will meet with their mentees regularly, outside of the home e.g. going for a walk or to a café’. Mentors will be matched with mentees based on location, interests and experience.

What skills do I need?

  • Be able to build trust with a mentee
  • Have excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills
  • Be honest, respectful and sensitive
  • Have the ability to motivate and enthuse
  • Have the ability to empathise
  • Be able to work on their own initiative to build the mentoring relationship at the same time as being aware of their own limits and accessing help when required
  • Be patient, flexible and reliable
