One of our biggest challenges as a charity is enabling those we support to access our activities due to a lack of suitable transportation. We are therefore looking for volunteer drivers to join our team.

We currently operate across Berkshire, Surrey Heath, North East Hampshire and Farnham, with a pilot project running in Woking. Volunteer drivers are needed across all areas, so wherever your location, you may be able to make a difference to the life of someone diagnosed with dementia through your support.

What would we like you to do? We would like you to pick up and drop off a person with dementia at our activity workshops. These are held in various locations within the areas we support. Depending on your location and that of the person with dementia, the time commitment could be 2-4 hours per activity workshop or event.

What skills do I need?

You will need a good driving record, have a presentable, fully insured (with a MOT where applicable), road legal and well maintained car. As you will be supporting vulnerable adults, you will also need to have a DBS check for Adults and to provide two references. You will also be asked to undertake training in support of your volunteer role which will include Safeguarding, Dementia and Health and Safety. You will also need to be compassionate and reliable with excellent communication skills.

In return you will receive:

• Mileage expenses based on the mileage that you travel to and from your home at 45p per mile. • Flexible scheduling to fit in with your availability. • Enhanced knowledge and skills in young onset dementia. • Make a meaningful difference to the lives of others. • Connect with like-minded individuals and professionals. • Receive acknowledgement and celebration of your valuable contributions. • Feel valued and part of a team. • Improved self-esteem, confidence and well-being. • Gain valuable work experience.

We are running a pilot in Woking at this time, but we also work in Surrey Heath, Farnham, NE Hampshire and across Berkshire.
