Helping support refugees in Woking

Woking Borough Council resettlement team currently looking for volunteers to help support refugees at our Ukrainian Hub, and we would be grateful for any time you can offer.
The hub runs every Friday from 11:00am to 3:00pm, and you are welcome to join us for the whole session. It is a warm, positive, and inspiring environment where people come together to make a real difference.
We especially need volunteers who can help with:
- CV writing and job searching support (no Ukrainian language skills required)
- Form filling, including applications and essential paperwork

Please note: volunteers will need a DBS check
The hub is at The Lighthouse, Unit 4 Church Path Woking Surrey GU21 6EL

What skills do I need?
Good communication skills – able to speak clearly, listen patiently, and explain things simply.
Empathy and understanding – supporting people who may be stressed, anxious, or adjusting to a new country.
Basic computer skills – comfortable using email, online job sites, Word documents, and online forms.
Organisational skills – able to support with paperwork, form filling, and job-search tasks.
Reliability and commitment – turning up when expected and following through on tasks.
Respect for confidentiality – handling personal information appropriately.
Desirable (but not required):
Experience with CV writing or recruitment
Experience supporting vulnerable people or refugees
Problem‑solving skills – able to help people navigate systems and find solutions.
What volunteers do not need:
You do not need to speak Ukrainian
You do not need professional experience – just kindness, patience, and willingness to help.
