We are currently recruiting for Section Leaders in Beavers, Cubs & Scouts. 1st Brookwood Scouts meet every Friday evening to help Pirbright & Brookwood’s 6 to 14 year olds get stuck into all kinds of activities that will give them skills for life. Every now and then that may mean using a compass, but more often than not it’s about confidence, speaking up and going for it. We need more leaders with opportunities in all age groups from our youngest Beavers to our oldest Scouts. With full support and training, you can volunteer on a flexible basis. Not only is it incredibly rewarding and great fun, but you’ll also learn from brilliant skills that are transferable to the workplace and further education. We welcome volunteers from every community and background. You don’t need to have been a Scout, and no experience is necessary.
Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower young people, acting as a role model. Communication: Clear, effective, and age-appropriate communication with scouts, parents, and other leaders. Teamwork & Collaboration: Working effectively with adult volunteers to support the troop. Planning & Organization: Organizing activities, meetings, and trips with clear objectives, including having backup plans. Decision-Making & Problem-Solving: Ability to handle unexpected situations and make safe, informed decisions. Mentoring: Teaching skills by Educating, Demonstrating, Guiding, and Enabling, rather than doing everything themselves. Safety & Risk Management: Understanding and implementing safety regulations and safeguarding protocols. Flexibility & Patience: Adapting to changing circumstances and maintaining a positive, encouraging attitude. Technical Skills (Optional but Helpful): Camping, hiking, first aid, and outdoor skills, though these can be learned on the job.
