Education Mentors

- Guide mentees through every stage of the UCAS process: researching courses and universities, understanding entry requirements, planning timelines, completing application forms, and drafting and refining personal statements.
- Provide specialist support for the Sanctuary Scholarship: explain eligibility criteria, help applicants understand what the scholarship panel looks for, gather required information, and craft strong, authentic submissions.
- Listen empathetically, build confidence, and help mentees navigate any anxieties or barriers they face — offering consistent encouragement and practical advice.
- Meet regularly with your assigned mentee(s), communicate reliably, and maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.
- Provide gentle feedback and encouragement, helping mentees develop independence and ownership of their educational journey.
- Update the Aspiring Dreams team on progress as agreed, and signpost to additional support where needed.
- Follow all organization policies, including safeguarding and data protection.
What skills do I need?
1. Active listening & empathy– Able to listen without judgment, understand someone’s worries and hopes, and respond with kindness and patience. 2. Clear communication – Explain information simply and sensitively; avoid jargon; adapt your style to suit how your mentee learns best. 3. Reliability & consistency – Show up to agreed meetings, keep in touch regularly, and be someone your mentee can trust. 4. Encouragement & confidence-building – Motivate others, celebrate small wins, and help mentees believe they are capable of succeeding. 5. Respect & inclusivity – Value people from all backgrounds; be sensitive to barriers such as language, experience of the UK system, or personal circumstances; treat everyone with dignity. 6. Basic organization – Help plan tasks, meet deadlines, and keep track of what needs to be done next. 7. Integrity & confidentiality – Keep personal information private, respect boundaries, and follow Aspiring Dreams’ policies. 8. Willingness to learn – Ready to pick up new information, use provided resources, and ask for support when you need it.
