Outline is a charity dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ communities, and owns the website Being Gay Is OK (BGIOK). BGIOK provides helpful resources, guidance, and information around gender and sexuality, aiming to create a safe, accessible, and informative online space. Role Overview We are looking for a volunteer WordPress Web Developer to design and build a new informational website for BGIOK. The website will be an information hub with resources reviewed by volunteers, helping users access guidance on gender and sexuality topics.

The role involves mostly independent work, with support from:

• The Service Manager of Outline

• The in-house designer and marketing team of Catalyst Support Content and design elements will be reviewed and guided by volunteers, ensuring the site meets community needs. Additionally, a monthly in-person focus group will be held on the last Thursday of each month to discuss key points and gather feedback. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the new website in WordPress, using a suitable theme or simple custom design.

• Plan site structure, content layout, and navigation in collaboration with Outline, Catalyst Support, and volunteers.

• Ensure the site is user-friendly, accessible, and mobile responsive.

• Integrate visual elements reflecting BGIOK’s identity and mission.

• Configure essential plugins (e.g., SEO, security, performance).

• Provide documentation or training for staff and volunteers to update content.

• Participate in monthly focus group discussions to gather input and refine site content.

What skills do I need?

Skills & Experience • Experience designing and developing websites in WordPress.

• Familiarity with WordPress themes, plugins, and page builders (e.g., Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg).

• Knowledge of responsive design and accessibility best practices.

• Basic understanding of SEO and web performance optimization.

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse team.

• Experience with charities or LGBTQ+ organisations is desirable, but not essential.
