The Woodford Salvation Army Toddler group is for children aged between 0-4 years and their carers. The group depends on committed volunteers who are passionate about showing hospitality and hope to families in our local community.  Supporting alongside other volunteers, you'll help prepare the venue, welcome parents/carers and toddlers to the group, support play and social interaction for children and talk with parents and carers, helping to make the toddler group a great place to be.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Support toddler team leaders by encouraging good behaviour.
  • Encourage children to participate fully.
  • Help to keep activities running smoothly with tasks such as taking the register or helping to set up the room.
  • Build good relationships with parents/carers and the children attending the group.
  • Build strong relationships with other volunteers. 
  • Share good news stories and feedback ideas about how to make the toddler group a great place to be.
  • Communicate your availability with the community programme manager, including lateness and absences.

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Volunteers must be friendly and welcoming to the children and their parents/carers. 
  • Regular commitment to activities, aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.
  • Willing to work within the Christian ethos of The Salvation Army but respectful of people of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds.
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and protecting vulnerable children/adults, professional confidentiality and to raise concerns where necessary.
  • Ability to follow guidelines and direction from the team leader.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • You don't need to have prior experience but having an interest in working with children is required.
  • Minimum age requirement: 17+

Volunteering takes place at Woodford Salvation Army on Wednesday mornings, (during term time), volunteers support from 9.15-12.15pm. Volunteers can support weekly or fortnightly during term time. There is a requested minimum commitment of three months.
