About the project
The aim of the project is to empower community volunteers/champions from diverse ethnic backgrounds to promote healthy and active ageing among older residents, fostering inclusion, trust, and wellbeing within the community.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Volunteers need to be able have some fluency in English spoken and written and from the following minority groups:
- South Asian Communities Indians, Pakistani, Bangladeshi
- Black Caribbean & Black African Communities
- Eastern European Communities (Polish, Romanian, Lithuanian)
Benefits to Volunteer
- Volunteers will receive training in life skills such as (Team building, communication skills and safeguarding)
- Training in liaising with the communities for participatory action research and wellbeing program
What skills do I need?
Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications
- Share our values – respect, compassion, inclusion, and commitment to improving the wellbeing of older people.
- Be reliable and responsible – able to commit to your agreed volunteer hours and follow EMAGE’s policies and guidance.
- Have good communication and listening skills – to engage positively with older people, other volunteers, and staff. Can speak English
- Work well in a team – supporting others and contributing to a welcoming and cooperative environment.
- Be willing to learn – take part in training on safeguarding, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Maintain confidentiality – respect the privacy and dignity of all participants and colleagues.
- Complete safeguarding checks – including a basic or enhanced DBS check (depending on the role).
- Show empathy and patience – especially when supporting older adults with diverse backgrounds and needs.
