For more than 40 years Home-Start Newark has worked across Newark and surrounding areas, supporting families with children under school age.  We are looking for new Trustees to work with us to ensure these children have a great start in life.

Our Trustees work with the Family Support Team who recruit and train volunteers to provide support for families coping with tough times, in their own homes.  This includes a range of informational, practical and emotional support, as well as linking families with appropriate local specialist agencies where needed.  We also provide a Step Up For School service, which supports families in strengthening the building blocks of children's skill development and whole-family school readiness.  In addition, we provide a twice-weekly Family Group with staff and volunteer support and a free healthy breakfast for every child.

Our Trustee Board is friendly and welcoming, with a close relationship with the Family Support Team.  We have sub committees working on key issues such as finance, HR, IT and EEDI, reporting back to the Board - giving the opportunity to use individual experiences to support the objectives of the charity.

Board meetings are held around 8 times per annum with sub committees as and when required.

We invite you to get in touch for an application pack.  You are welcome to send in your CV, but we will ask you to fill out our form as well.

What skills do I need?

Trustees should be approachable, make others feel at ease and be motivated by doing what's best for the greater good.  They need to be team players and be prepared to contribute to Board Meetings and sub committees, providing governance and acting in the best interests of the charity at all times.

They must believe that children have a right to a great start in life and be prepared to support our Executive Team and Volunteers to achieve this objective.

Some of our opportunities are given below but we welcome applications from those who can offer other skills:

  • Working with our Treasurer to prepare accounts for the Board and Executive Team
  • Human Resources support
  • IT and Cyber Security support
  • Marketing Support
