Action for Children (formerly National Children's Home) is a UK children's charity created to help vulnerable children and young people, and their families, in the UK.
The role asks that you commit to volunteering your time once a month to meet up with a specific young person in care, doing fun activities in the community for a minimum of two years.
An independent visitor (IV) is a volunteer who has been trained and vetted to befriend a child in care. The aim is for the child and adult volunteer to become long term friends and meet up once a month (expenses reimbursed by Action for Children). As the young people are in school, the visits are usually at the weekends.
Children in care often lead chaotic lives – being moved to different foster carers or changing school frequently - and having a friend who is consistent and stable can mean so much.
It is a hugely rewarding process and it is known there are many people out there who want to make a difference to society – this is a chance to get involved in the community and really help! The first step is to fill in an application form and attend a meet and greet to get more info!
They are currently looking for a volunteer to support a young person placed in Long Buckby.
This opportunity is available Countywide.
