As part of our Supporting Sisters project at Aspire we aim to support the physical, mental and emotional well being of women so they can live the lives they want.

Our one-to-one confidential listening service aims to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental place onsite for women to talk.

The Listening Service is appointment-based. A telephone or outreach service may be offered if appropriate.

Full training given and expenses paid whilst on duty

The role of a volunteer listener is to respond to the needs of the women, offering specific, focused time for a woman to talk about and work through periods of difficulty.

  • The listener will respond with a person-centred approach, considering the unique and sensitive nature of each individual listening session.
  • The listener will ensure conversations remain confidential in line with Aspire's safeguarding procedures and policies.
  • The listener will commit to being dependable and consistent, will complete a mandatory training programme and all paperwork responsibilities.
  • The role will require an Enhanced DB check for which Aspire will cover the costs, and two character references need to be provided.

What skills do I need?

  • To be reliable
  • To be friendly, welcoming and approachable
  • To express a non-judgemental attitude, embodying a considerate empathetic and genuine nature
  • To work within Aspire's policies, boundaries and service parameters
  • To have good communication skills
  • To be able to use own initiative during volunteering
  • To promote and upkeep confidentiality
