Gosforth and Jesmond Community Minibus (G&JCM)

GJ&CM provides safe, friendly, and accessible transport that helps local people to stay connected, independent, and active within their communities. We are in need of a volunteer to help us to engage with our users and volunteers through social media… can you help?

You will be volunteering with G&JCM trustees, volunteers and users in a friendly and cooperative working network

Role Description:

Goals for Social Media:

  • Raise awareness of who we are and what we do
  • Increase community engagement and support (e.g. more users, volunteers, and donors)
  • Share real human stories that highlight our impact
  • Drive more visits to our website and enquiries via contact channels

2. Tone & Style

  • Warm, friendly, approachable
  • Keep things local and community-focused
  • Visuals: people, places, smiles, the minibus in action
  • Language: simple, positive, accessible – no jargon!

3. Weekly Content Plan (Light Touch – 2–3 Posts/Week)

4. Boosting Enquiries (Engagement & Reach)

  • Tag local groups and use local hashtags (#Gosforth, #NewcastleCommunity, #VolunteerNE)
  • Ask simple questions to encourage comments (“Where should we go next?”)
  • Create short video clips (even from a phone!) of the bus setting off or someone waving
  • Share testimonials or quotes from service users and families
  • Partner with local organisations and cross-promote content

5. Tools & Platforms

  • Start with Facebook – ideal for reaching older users, families, and local groups
  • Instagram (optional) – good for sharing stories/photos visually
  • Use Canva for quick, professional-looking graphics (free version is great!)
  • Schedule posts using Meta’s free scheduler or a basic planner doc

6. Measure Success Simply

Every month, check:

  • Likes, shares, and comments on posts
  • Clicks to your website or contact form
  • New followers and volunteer enquiries

7. Regular review/report back sessions with Trustees

What skills do I need?

  • Creativity
  • Understanding of social media and social media metrics
  • Good written communication skills
