Cricketqube is looking for a legal professional willing to give a small amount of time each quarter to sense-check our agreements before we sign them.

We are a community interest company delivering cricket and physical activity across the North East and Yorkshire. Like most organisations our size, we regularly sign venue agreements, coaching contracts and funding terms without anyone legally qualified reading them first.

We want to be clear about what this role is not. We are not asking anyone to act as our solicitor, to provide formal legal advice, or to take on liability for our decisions.

We are asking for an experienced eye and a plain-English opinion on whether we are about to agree to something we should not.

The role is episodic — quiet for weeks, then a document lands.

  • The role requires a legal qualification or substantial practical experience of commercial contracts
  • Volunteers in this role will be expected to adhere to strict organisation privacy and confidentiality policies, as well as those expected by law, i.e. GDPR
  • Volunteers in this role are expected to adhere to all relevant organisation policies, such as Health and Safety and Safeguarding

Tasks:

  • Review venue hire agreements and facility booking terms before signature
  • Review freelance and self-employed coaching contracts and advise on how they are structured
  • Read funder terms and conditions and flag obligations we should be aware of before accepting
  • Advise on data protection and GDPR as it applies to participant information
  • Help us understand which matters genuinely need paid professional advice, so we spend our money in the right places
  • Attend a quarterly online advisory meeting alongside our other professional volunteers
  • Respect the confidentiality of the organisation, its partners and its participants

A few hours per quarter, plus one online meeting per quarter. Work arrives episodically rather than on a regular schedule.  flexible, all sessions Monday to Sunday. Work is remote and arranged around the volunteer's availability.

What skills do I need?

  • This role is suited to a solicitor, barrister, legal executive, paralegal, in-house counsel or retired legal professional.
  • Experience of commercial contracts, employment or contractor status, data protection, or the charity and social enterprise sector would all be relevant.
  • Above all we need someone who can explain legal risk clearly to people without legal training, and who is comfortable saying “this is fine”, “this needs changing” or “you need to pay someone for this” without hedging.

Key attributes for the role;

  • Attention to detail
  • Clear communication
  • Reliability
  • Discretion
  • Independent judgement
  • Confidence
  • Assertiveness
  • Problem Solving
  • Listening Skills
  • Supportive
