  • Setting up/clearing away at venues where the activity/group/event is taking place.
  • Wearing a uniform to identify you as a Volunteer.
  • Meeting and greeting Service Users and their Carers.
  • Encouraging Service Users to engage and participate.
  • Listening and talking to Service Users and their Carers.
  • Preparing and serving refreshments and washing up afterwards.
  • Taking personal responsibility for the health and safety of self and others.


To adhere to the ‘Butterfly Method’ which means never correcting a Service User’s understanding or beliefs.

  • To adhere to the policies and procedures of Silverline Memories.
  • To attend training and performance review meetings relevant to your employment and role.
  • To be sympathetic to the aims of the Charity and to promote Silverline Memories CIO in a positive light.

What skills do I need?

  • Have personal/professional experience of caring for someone with dementia.
  • Understand, perhaps from personal/professional experience, that a diagnosis of dementia affects, not just the person concerned, but those that know and love them.
  • Adopt a friendly, happy and welcoming approach.
  • Have an ability to engage with people.
  • Are outgoing, personable and a good conversationalist.
  • Have good listening skills
  • Display honesty and integrity.
  • Show compassion and empathy.
  • Have the ability to make people feel at ease.
  • Display a smart appearance and professional demeanor.
  • Are polite and courteous, regardless of the situation.
  • Are able to deal calmly with difficult situations. · Are willing to ‘go that extra mile’.
