VOLUNTEERS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED!
JOINING OUR INDEPENDENT VISITING SERVICE, YOU CAN SUPPORT CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN CARE!
Independent Visitors are adults who offer support to children and young people who are living with a foster family or in residential care. They are separate from social services and independent from family, and education.
Why become an independent visitor?
Make a lasting difference in the life of a child or young person
Share fun activities, sports and hobbies with a young person
Pass on your skills to the next generation - talk about life choices, help with homework etc.
Be a positive role model
Develop a long-term trusting relationship
Gain experience working with a young person in care
Benefit from excellent training, support and being part of a caring organisation.
If this is what you are looking for, then we need to hear from you!
What our Independent Visitors do:
BEFRIEND: Visit a child on a regular basis, usually once a month, to befriend them and take them out to do activities such as Bowling, Cinema, visit an animal sanctuary, grab a burger and visit a museum, or maybe you know somewhere that would be fun to visit?
ADVISE: Provide a "Child in Care" with someone to talk to who is independent of the local authority, and someone who has never read a file about them.
SUPPORT: Provide a consistent and reliable adult with a view to building a trusting and positive relationship with the young person, some young people have never had someone in their lives who is there because they want to be with no agenda, just to have fun.
DEVELOP: Provide a child with the opportunity to try new activities and spend time away from their placement/ foster home and allowing them to just be a "young person" like any other and giving them time to forget they are "in care".
