The Isle of Wight Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IWASBAH) is an independent charity which provides help and support for those with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus who live on the Isle of Wight and their families.
We aim to provide support for our members to achieve independence and integration in the community.
Our main focus is supporting members through small grants for equipment to assist independent living, raising awareness about the conditions and supporting our members to live independent lives.
We are looking to recruit two new Trustees, one with a general interest in supporting the Association and one to act as our finance lead.
A IWASBAH Trustee has the following obligations:
Ensure the financial viability of the Association
Assisting to develop the Associations objectives and monitoring achievement.
Act as an advocate of the Association within the community
The Trustee with a lead for Finance has the following additional responsibilities:
• Be a signature to the Association’s bank accounts • Have on-line access to the Association’s bank accounts
• Set the annual budget for the Association
• Manage the day-to-day bank account business including payment of grants to members, paying in funds raised
• Finalise the year-end figures in preparation for the annual independent inspection
• Flag any potential concerns about the Association finances to the Board of Trustees.

The successful candidates would need to be available for quarterly formal Board Meetings in person, typically lasting 1-1.5 hours and take place on a Friday afternoon at the Riverside Centre. These are held face to face but virtual attendance can be facilitated by exception. In addition, other meetings ad hoc meetings may be required from time to time. Dates for Board Meetings are set 12 months in advance and papers are distributed 1 week prior to the meeting. Dates for other meetings are agreed with Trustees.
The finance trustee would need to commit to undertake work associated with the role including banking and report preparation.
