You’ll be supporting a range of vulnerable and intimidated witnesses both remotely and in person, who require an enhanced level of support, including victims of sexual or domestic abuse as well as people with communication or mental health needs and child/young witnesses when you have gained experience.
You’ll be each witness’ key supporter before, during and after the trial to help them prepare and cope with their experience of giving evidence.
With training you will work collaboratively with witnesses to identify their needs and deliver a tailored package of preparation and support to include:

It can take around 3 months to become fully accredited as a Witness Service Volunteer. The expectation is that you can volunteer for a minimum of 12 months after you’ve completed your training.
When you're training we’ll ask you to offer a minimum of a day a week (Mon - Fri from 9am - 5pm) overall but this is a flexible role and your time volunteering can be fitted round times in each week when you are available. There is also an option to complete some training at the Portsmouth courts - travel reimbursed.
