Would you like to help our Community patients ? Our therapies team is looking for volunteer drivers to help with transporting patients and equipment between their home and the Hospice.
As a volunteer driver you will enable patients in the community to attend the hospice site for outpatient appointments or to participate in various types of clinical and therapeutic groups’ activities; as well as to transport items locally to and from the hospice.
Main duties are:
· Collecting patients from their home and transporting them to our Havering Atte-Bower Hospice and/or transporting them home again.
· Driving the hospice’s own vehicle that can accommodate a patient, who must travel in their own wheelchair/scooter.
· Taking samples, letters and empty drug boxes from the hospice to a local chemist and/or to a local hospital at a set time
· Collect the drug box from a local chemist at a set time and bringing it to the hospice
· Occasionally transporting carers who have no other means of being able to visit their loved ones, who are staying in the hospice’s Inpatient Unit.
· Where possible, assisting other departments who require a driver and no one else is available.
· Collect and replace collection boxes, from various shops, pubs, cafes and other locations in the community.
· Distribute leaflets out to leaflet holders.
· Assist in the transportation of materials to and from the storage facilities.
· Delivery of events-related materials to supporters of the hospice.
· Assisting the fundraising staff and volunteers at events, loading and unloading of materials and equipment and assisting with driving tasks on event days.
Be a positive ‘ambassador’ for the hospice when in contact with supporters and members of the public
· Full current UK driver’s licence
· Suitable vehicle for patients to access and exit from
· Full comprehensive vehicle insurance – with the insurance company being aware of the volunteering being undertaken
