Step into the story of Romford and help bring its market to life!

For over 775 years, Romford Market has been a place of exchange, encounters and community. This August Bank Holiday, Market Town will transform the historic market and surrounding streets into a spectacular 24-hour interactive performance, celebrating the voices, stories and everyday experiences that make Romford unique.

Presented as part of the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival, this exciting large-scale outdoor production is inspired by Romford's rich history, folklore and imagination—and we're looking for local volunteers to help make it happen!

What's involved?

As a volunteer performer, you'll become part of an unforgettable public performance that fills Romford Market with energy, creativity and surprise.

You'll be taking part in wearing specially designed costumes and taking part in simple moments that celebrate the spirit of the town. Mingling with the crowds, performers and handing out freebies to passers-by!

Step back in time and become a:

• Town Cryer
• Market Trader
• disco queen
• 90's raver
• A reveller through the decades

You'll be provided with the costume and all the items needed to be as bold or as understated as you like. 

Don't worry if you've never performed before! We'll provide everything you need, including:

• A warm welcome and friendly support from the creative team.
• Costumes and guidance to get you performance-ready.
• Rehearsals that are fun, accessible and designed for everyone.
• The chance to be part of a unique cultural event seen by thousands of people.

What skills do I need?

We're looking for people who:

• Have enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
• Feel a connection to Romford and its community.
• Are happy to get involved and try something new.
• Are aged 18+ 
• No previous performance experience is required—just bring yourself!
