Waste Prevention Community Champions help Hampshire residents waste less and save money by reducing the number of items they throw away, including food waste, single-use plastics and textile waste, through encouraging them to take up new behaviours, such as meal planning, home composting and repairing.
Typical tasks include:
Commitment is around 30 hours per year (including planning and travel). Some evenings may be required to attend group meetings.
This role is important in changing public behaviour around consumption and waste generation and will involve interaction with people from all backgrounds. It is therefore important that you have good written and verbal communication skills and are comfortable talking to groups. Good organisational skills would also be beneficial in planning and running talks and events.
No previous training or experience is needed for this role, however an interest in environmental matters and experience engaging in waste prevention activities might be helpful. You will be provided with training and resources to help you deliver the tasks and duties. You will be supported by staff and other volunteers.
