Our Stroke Association Volunteer led Groups at Milford on Sea offer on-going social and peer support to people affected by stroke. We meet every Tuesday morning, and fortnightly on a Wednesday afternoon, at the Milford on Sea Community Centre.

Our members enjoy the company of others who have understanding of stroke and they can access information about stroke directly from the Stroke Association.

Our group offer a range of activities including, arts and craft, conversation, board games and use of technology. We also enjoy an annual Christmas meal at a local hotel. The group offers a regular meeting point to increase social interaction and rebuild confidence after a stroke.

Our volunteers work together to run the group, supported by a Stroke Association Coordinator.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for people who have an affinity for people with disability and who wish to support the group, on a week by week basis, in any way from simple refreshments, through to managing membership forms, supporting the treasurer, thinking of ideas for or planning the weekly activities, delivering an activity and supporting stroke survivors, one to one or in the main group, to enjoy conversation and build up confidence communication with others.

It’s really a willingness to help and learn and great listening skills that are important since we offer full induction and training with ongoing support.
