Our Mission

Our whole mission is to provide safe housing and support for older people in Fareham. Bases on a family ethos, we promote a caring home with a sense of togetherness for those who may be lonely or unable to support themselves in later life.

Our values guide everything we do. Founded in 1963 we have been providing self contained independent accommodation in Fareham since then. As a trustee, you will help ensure our charity stays true to its purpose, uses its resources wisely, looks after the welfare of residents and continues to make a meaningful impact.

The Impact You'll Make

As a trustee, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our charity. Your insight, expertise, and commitment will help us make sound decisions, safeguard our assets, and ensure we deliver on our mission. You will be a guardian of our vision, ensuring that every decision we make benefits the people, causes, and communities we serve.

  • Contribute to setting and reviewing the charity’s strategic aims, ensuring they align with our mission and values.
  • Oversee the charity’s financial health, approving budgets and monitoring performance against targets.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including Charity Commission guidance.
  • Policies and Processes Ensure the organisation has in place appropriate policies, systems and procedures to operate legally and effectively.
  • Support the Chair and senior team to achieve agreed objectives.
  • Act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting our work and building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings, sub-committees, and occasional events.
  • Bring your skills, experience, and perspective to help solve challenges and seize opportunities.

What skills do I need?

  • A genuine passion for our cause and a commitment to our values.
  • Sound Judgement and the confidence to ask challenging questions.
  • Integrity: A commitment to Nolan’s Seven Principles of Public Life (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership).
  • Ensure the organisation has in place appropriate policies, processes and systems.
  • Governance Knowledge: Understanding of charity law and the Charity Governance Code
  • Strategic thinking skills and the ability to see the “big picture.”
  • Willingness to contribute time, energy, and expertise on a voluntary basis.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • We look for specific expertise in areas such as finance, law, fundraising, HR, marketing, or governance.
