Team's business objective: "To delight Watercress Line passengers & visitors. To achieve an entirely positive reaction of all passengers boarding trains. Aim: No complaints of lack of carriage cleanliness."

Number of volunteers needed (01, Apr 25): 15 Internal, 10 External

Purpose of these volunteers: Maintain the interiors of carriages to a good standard and cleanliness,
to enhance customer experience.  Looking for defects and hazards and reporting to Carriage Workshops team.

Outline of tasks:

Daily:

• General cleaning duties: floor sweeping/mopping/vacuuming, table wiping/polishing.
• Emptying rubbish bins, brush down seating, wiping/polish handles, etc.
  
• Window cleaning, polish wooden panels and interior doors.
  
• Toilet cleaning, etc. 

Monthly/Seasonal, and Off-season:

• 'Deep-cleaning'
  
• Carpet and upholstery cleaning, etc.

What skills do I need?

No previous skills required; full training to develop skill is provided free-of-charge & on-the-role.

A volunteer in this role ideally has/can:

• A good attitude to work
• Willing to learn
  
• Teamwork
• Adaptable
• Commit to a regular time each week (we ask for at least twice a month, ideally once weekly)

Training Opportunities (i.e. competences to gain), provided FOC to volunteers:

• Personal Safety (on platforms & in-carriages, incl small-space working)
  
• Emergency First Aid At Work
  
• Awareness of cleaning products handling (incl chemicals) and use of PPE
  
• Specialist cleaning techniques: e.g. mould treatment
  
• Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence is required for this role (to access carriages in the sidings i.e. not at station platforms).

Please note, re. volunteer capability for this role:

• Volunteers cannot have impairment of mobility, as the tasks need volunteers to get inside carriages, to use step bridges to get to platforms, and sometimes (after PTS training) to access and walk beside or across railway tracks to carriages in platforms or in sidings and to climb up into carriages in sidings.
• must be fit enough to perform this physical work & to carry equipment.
