A team of volunteers are needed to help volunteer in The Community Men's Shed within the Kennedy Way Community Garden. Training and support will be provided by CVST.

The Community Men's Shed is for woodworking and social interaction. The movement originated in Australia around the 1980s to improve men's health and wellbeing. We are looking for volunteers to be a mentor for any community member who wishes to come into the shed to do woodwork. You will be assisting members of the community in developing their woodworking skills. This volunteer role is perfect for anyone who has people skills and is a good listener.

Please note that all Shed Mentor volunteers will be required to pass an assessment on the different woodworking machines or tools. before leading a session.

The Kennedy Way Community Garden has been regenerated by the NHS Estates Team, working in collaboration with CVS Tendring to help local residents with their physical and mental wellbeing. The garden is a space allowing you to be out in the fresh air, make new friends, learn and share new skills and to be part of the larger community.

The Community Men's Shed is based in the Kennedy Way Community Garden which also has a Community Garden growing both flowers and vegetables, an Outdoor Gym, a seating area and a meeting place for Walking Groups.

As part of making our space inclusive, we aim to be welcoming to anyone who would benefit from the physical, emotional and social benefits of our community garden.

What skills do I need?

As a volunteer, we would like you to be able to:

Welcome new members with a smile and make them feel welcome and comfortable.

To be an experienced wood worker and want to pass on your skills onto the community.

Engage with local residents to let people know about the Community Men's Shed and

the Community Garden.

Share your skills with the community in a patient and calm manner.

Have a non-judgemental, supportive and positive attitude.

Show newcomers around and explain what activities are available to them.
