Community Energy and Events Volunteer

Tendring Community Energy is looking for friendly local volunteers to help us at community events, advice sessions and activities across Tendring.

This is a flexible role for somebody who enjoys meeting people and wants to support their community. You do not need previous experience or technical knowledge. We will provide training, guidance and ongoing support.

What you could be doing

• Welcoming people to TCE events and activities
• Talking with residents about the help available from TCE
• Helping staff set up and pack away displays and equipment
• Demonstrating simple energy-saving products
• Distributing information and practical energy-saving items
• Helping people complete contact or referral forms
• Supporting activities at our Clacton office and the Jaywick Energy Hub
• Recording basic information about our activities and community engagement
• Encouraging people to access further advice when they need it

Who we are looking for

We would particularly welcome people who:

• Are friendly, approachable and happy to talk to others
• Want to make a positive difference locally
• Can listen without judging people
• Are reliable and comfortable working as part of a team
• Are willing to learn about household energy and community energy
• Understand the importance of confidentiality

You do not have to know all the answers. Volunteers will be shown what information they can provide and when a question should be passed to a trained member of the TCE team.

Location and commitment

The role will be based from Tendring Community Energy at 16 Station Road, Clacton-on-Sea, with activities at the Jaywick Energy Hub and community venues across Tendring.

There is no rigid weekly commitment. Volunteers can support activities that suit their availability, although reasonable notice and reliability are important once an activity has been agreed.

What skills do I need?

No previous experience or technical knowledge is required. We are looking for people who are:

• Friendly, welcoming and approachable
• Comfortable speaking with members of the public
• Good listeners who can communicate in plain language
• Reliable and able to work as part of a team
• Interested in helping their local community
• Willing to learn about household energy and community energy
• Able to respect confidentiality and personal information
• Comfortable completing simple forms or willing to learn
• Happy to help with light event setup and packing away where able

Training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.
