Treasurer:

The Church of England is committed to promoting a safe environment and culture for children for young children, young people and vulnerable adults. The individual appointed to this role will be expected to work within the policy and procedures of the relevant safeguarding policies and attend all safeguarding training.

Main purpose of the role: The Treasurer assists the Parochial Church Council (PCC) in planning for income and expenditure across the year. The Treasurer keeps an accurate record of transactions, as well as preparing annual accounts. The Treasurer creates reports for PCC Meetings. The Treasurer ensures the parish meets the requirements of the Charity Commission.

What you will be doing:

  • Prepare an annual financial report noting the financial assets of the church at the year end and outlining receipts and disbursements during the previous year
  • Keep records of bank deposits and financial investments of the church
  • Be one of the authorising signatories on transactions on the online banking
  • Provide a financial summary for PCC meetings - 6 times per year
  • Make the annual Gift Aid and Small Donations claim from HMRC

What skills do I need?

  • We need someone who is honest and trustworthy, who knows how to use Excel for accounts
  • Financially competent with ability to maintain accurate accounts books on excel
  • Be able to explain financial issues clearly
  • Good interpretation skills
  • Will need access to a computer and knowledge of Excel
  • Have an understanding of the role and responsibilities of managing charitable funds

Personal Attributes, Qualifications and Training:

  • Be able to meet the wilder requirements of the Charity Commissioners for all trustees: i.e. not disqualified by bankruptcy or by convictions for financial wrong doing 
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Be compliant with St Nicholas' Church Safeguarding Policy and Practice
  • Willingness to undertake Church of England training as required for the role

Availability - as and when

Notes:

  • The Treasurer has no responsibility for the church building, churchyard or any physical objects associated with the church
  • The Treasurer need not be a church member or regular attendee
  • There is not petty cash held. Almost all receipts are immediately paid into a bank
  • The Treasurer is not responsible for paying cash from the church collections into a bank.

 



Training:

  • The Church of England training requirements for this post are basic and foundation online Safeguarding training courses
  • The relevant training should be completed during the probationary period

This opportunity can be carried out whilst working from home.

Working from home as and when needed. The time commitment depends on the volunteer and how long it takes for the accounts to be checked etc.. The successful candidate would be appointed by the PCC after meeting the Church of England Safer Recruitment requirements. This post is subject to satisfactory probationary period of 3 months.
We hold meetings at Fane Hall in Kelvedon Hatch, we'd like the role holder to attend, but know that may not be possible.
