Our Beavers section is for boys and girls age 6-8. There are about 20-30 children, the Beaver Team Leader and three other Team members who assist, plus one or two young leaders who also assist. The leader is responsible for organising the activities of each meeting, although this can be shared out between all the leaders, and then running the meeting. The team can share the running of activities or assist the leader. The activities vary from making craft things, learning specific skills like basic first aid principles, playing games and sports, or listening to invited speakers.
What skills do I need?
- Experience of children!
- Balancing having fun with keeping control (it's not school, but also it does need some structure!)
- Managing a group.
- Being able to communicate and/or demonstrate tasks in simple terms.
- Learning the Scouting code and Beavers Promise.
- Patience.
- Would suit teachers or would-be teachers.
There will be the opportunity for a phased handover from our current Beaver Leader, so previous experience is not necessary.
