This is an opportunity to help teenagers in the local area by working with them at our after school Drop In sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays. There are also opportunities to support our school holiday activities. You will form part of our youth work team at the sessions where you will help to support young people, help young people feel valued and listened to, and help build up their self confidence and social skills.

Duties include

• Assisting the youth work team in running various activities

• Helping young people to carry out the activities.

• Providing a listening ear to any young people who wish to talk

• Assisting in set up and clear up of drop in sessions.

Benefits

• Full induction and training, including safeguarding, confidentiality and health and safety (food hygiene training is also available)
• Be part of our friendly, fun, youth work team
• Gain experience and be part of our exciting work to support young people.

Practical Considerations

Our Hub is opposite Lancing train station and situated near good local bus routes. The sessions we run are after school and last around an hour and a half. Our summer holiday programme is either half or full days and the activities are nearly always off site.

What skills do I need?

• Good communication and listening skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Responsible and reliable
• Ability to work on own initiative
• A friendly, non-judgemental attitude.

Previous experience is not necessary and full training will be given.
All volunteers are given a code of conduct for working with young people and it is important that this is followed.
All volunteers working with young people will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
