Interventions Alliance specialises in delivering bespoke behavioural change programmes to participants who are exhibiting domestic abuse or stalking behaviours. Our Volunteers play a key role by delivering positive impact through behaviour change projects that address the needs of the participants we work with (mainly men over the age of 18). Volunteer Mentors help minimise a person’s risk of (re)offending by supporting them to access vital services. As a volunteer mentor you will act as positive role model who inspires, empowers and guides participants to achieve actions agreed on the initial action plan by offering personalised, one-to-one support to help improve participants’ lives, equipping them with the skills they need to succeed and to prevent these individuals from becoming trapped in a cycle of criminality. You will be working alongside relevant multi-agency partners including the Sussex Police, National Probation Service, substance misuse services, social services and others.

Benefits

  • Full training provided – a mix of remote self-paced e-modules and group training
  • Access to specialist training for free
  • Experience working in the criminal justice sector and with local agencies

  • Career opportunities in the criminal justice sector and adjacent fields

  • Paid expenses
  • Regular support and supervision from your Volunteer coordinator.

Practical Considerations

  • This role can be remote or in-person. For in person roles, you will be matched with someone in your local area, but you may have to travel (all travel expenses can be claimed back).

  • The meeting times with your participant will be decided between the two of you, but average weekly commitments are about 2-3 hours.

  • We require at least 12 month commitment.
  • You will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

However, a criminal record does not necessarily disqualify you from volunteering with us. In fact, we place great value on lived experience and welcome and encourage anyone with it to apply for this role.

Support Disabled

We encourage anyone to apply to become a volunteer with IA. Majority of the volunteering we offer can be done remotely via phone or video calls. We provide volunteers with devices to use for this purpose. For any in person session, we seek out accessible locations for all where possible.

What skills do I need?

  • No experience necessary
  • Access to a computer & knowledge of basic IT skills
  • Ability to listen effectively and communicate with others
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to use own initiative to identify and access relevant resources
  • Ability to keep commitments and/or appointments, and deliver results within agreed timescales
  • Problem solving and can-do attitude
  • Non-judgemental approach and sensitivity in working with vulnerable people or people who are experiencing a difficult situation, whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
