Speak Out’s long-term aim is to increase our capacity to provide a range of advocacy support to all learning-disabled adults in Brighton and Hove who need it. With the increased demand on our services we are looking for trustees to help us grow and develop.
As a Trustee you will act solely in the best interests of the charity, supporting the charity in a governance role, adding scrutiny to the strategic management and direction of the charity, ensuring the charity’s services are working in line with the Mission statement, fulfilling its legal duties, and ensuring the work is serving people with learning disabilities to a high standard.
As a member of the Board you will be required to attend four full Board meetings annually and also sit on one of our sub groups, each of which meet four times per year (eight meetings per year in total with reading of board papers in advance).
We currently have two subcommittees:
We are looking for Trustees with particular skills in the following areas:
We are also interested in hearing from people who may have/have had leaderships roles in the charity sector, therefore having a broad range of skills useful for the Governance of our charity.
Trustees with Speak Out must be friendly, supportive, approachable, non-judgemental, open-minded, and support diversity and inclusion. You must also be confident and be a good communicator. Although we welcome applications from people who have had direct experience of learning disability, this is not essential. However, we do ask people to have a genuine interest in learning disability, and the challenges that people with a learning disability face, and to have a willingness to learn more, and support our advocacy work.
