As a venue outreach volunteer, you will support a Sexual Health Outreach worker and will accompany them to local LGBTQ+ venues e.g. LGBTQ+ bars and clubs, Saunas, and swingers hotels etc. You will work with the outreach worker firstly to assess and identify any potential risks, and then to work safely to distribute safer sex and harm reduction information, provide condoms and lubricants, and offer advice to members of the public and signposting to appropriate services.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Accompany a LGBTQ+ Venue Sessional Outreach Worker to well-known local LGBTQ+ nightspots
- Accompany a PSE Sessional Outreach Worker to outdoor public sex environments (if applicable)
- Give harm reduction and sexual health advice when appropriate
- Give advice about support services and around issues effecting LGBTQ+ and MSM
- Work with the Outreach Worker to ensure all visits are risk assessed
- Answer general queries about the service
- Take direction and work within professional boundaries
- Keep all client information confidential
- Be professional and act as an ambassador to the service
- Attend events, such as Blackpool Pride, College/University fairs, or testing events to promote the service and support team members
