Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead weekly walks for groups of adults 50+
  • Welcoming new members
  • Ensuring everyone is safe during walks and sticking to any risk assessments or guidance given by Age UK Bexley.
  • Taking records of attendees and reporting these to the community development manager
  • Supporting walkers during walks and helping them feel less isolated.

This charity takes the safety of those that use and deliver its services very seriously. We work hard to ensure all risk management and infection control measures are robust and in place across all our services. Where there are concerns in relation to this commitment the charity encourages its staff and volunteers to raise any issues with its managers, trustees and commissioners

This opportunity is for over 18s only and volunteers must be willing to undertake a DBS check, induction training and to a regular weekly commitment.

Social and physical activities for older people have been shown to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, enhance mental and physical wellbeing and improve cognitive function.

What skills do I need?

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Some knowledge of the local area
  • Able to communicate effectively with older and vulnerable people
  • An understanding of the effects of social isolation and their importance for healthy living in older people
  • A commitment to equal opportunities
